CELLAR NOTES

Saying hello to an old friend (Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1999)

Alex Haruni

This weekend I decided to rummage in my Dad’s wine fridge to see what was lurking in there and I came across a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1999 which I decided to open and drink with Friday night dinner. Well the wine is holding up quite well, the nose is still vibrant and the palate smooth and complex. By the way, it goes quite well with roast chicken.

I remember the wine had a difficult beginning, the fruit was great but the winemaker (not Naama) mediocre, and the wine had to be gently honed back into shape by John. At the time, the wine came out to some very good reviews though privately we were worried that it wouldn’t hold up. Well we were wrong, 10 years on and it is still looking good. If you have any set aside, the time is right to drink it. Le’ Haim.
