CELLAR NOTES

Preparing for the Holidays

Alex Haruni

It has been a while since my last posting, no excuses really I just seem to have lost the blogging mojo for a bit. That is not to say that nothing has been happening in the winery. There has been plenty of action.

Bottling in full swing

We are currently in a frenzy to bottle as many of the 2009 wines as we can in order for them to arrive to distant shores sufficiently before Passover 2010. Among the list of wines we have the new vintage of Canaan which has been out of stock in our export markets for nearly a year now due to Shmitta (the Sabbatical year),. Rest-assured the first container left the winery today. Moscato will be back in the US UK and Canada after a respite of nearly two years and we are also reintroducing the Unoaked Chardonnay back into the D series. The chardonnay promises to be a stellar wine; it is fresh and fruity with absolutely no oak influence at all.

Welcome back to the Unoaked Chardonnay

Rumours of the introduction of a new ultra premium wine are also true, the wine, called Matatia, after my Dad, will be released in the very near future, we are just waiting to receive the final bits of packaging so that the bottle can be dressed properly, meanwhile here is a sneak preview of the wine. I am not quite sure at what price it will land on the shelf, but like a famous Belgian beer it will be reassuringly expensive.

Don't look at the vintage this is a mock up for illustrative purposes only

2010 will see some changes in our portfolio, there will be no Rosé or Barbera from the 2009 vintage but there might be some interesting additions, a Petit Sirah in the D series and an additional blend in the Alma series and due to popular demand we will be increasing the quantity of Shriaz we will make in the D series now that our new vineyards have come on line. We will also be planting some interesting new varieties in our pursuit to build up the winery to 1.2 million bottles.

That’s it for this update. I am working on some interesting (or at least I think so) articles for 2010 so keep looking in.  If your Hebrew is good you should take a look at what Naama has to say on the Hebrew side as she writes really well.
