CELLAR NOTES

A Winter White: Chardonnay Reserve 2008

Alex Haruni

The cold is all around us and there is nothing nicer than a warm night in with a good meal good company and a glass of fine wine. Most of you will think that the ideal wine would be a hearty red, but I don’t think that is necessarily the case. Last night I opened a bottle of our 2008 Chardonnay Reserve.

Chardonnay Reserve 2008

I am happy to report that the wine is looking really good and a little bottle age has improved the depth of flavours and aromas. The wine is a lovely translucent, light amber colour, on the nose are hints of dried figs and apricots layered with a creamy buttery character from the barrel. The finish on the palate is nicely balanced with good acidity and length. I think that the wine has plenty of life left in it and will age well in the bottle for a good few years.

Just as an aside, 2008 will be the last year of making the Chardonnay Reserve for a while.  We will continue making chardonnay but the fruitier unoaked style that will be available in the D series in a few weeks time.
