CELLAR NOTES

Holiday Triple

Alex Haruni

This holiday we are recommending three wines, all from our reasonably priced D series; they are the new vintages (2009) of our Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Fumé Blanc.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Fumé Blanc and Shiraz 2009

For Rosh Hashanah, we suggest the Fumé Blanc 2009, an especially festive white wine. The wine was spontaneously fermented in large oak barrels (500 liters). Naama writes, in Hebrew, here about her experiences with wild yeast fermentations. It is one of my favourites and is a particularly food friendly wine.

On Sukkot we suggest the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, as we sit in the Sukkah at the end of the summer and the weather begins to turn a little cooler (up in the Galilee we are already beginning to feel a chill in the air) we can once again return to the comfort of a glass of red wine. This medium bodied wine with expressive fruity notes is the ideal wine for a festive family meal welcoming the beginning of autumn.

On Simhat Torah we suggest Shiraz 2009. Simhat Torah is a holiday associated with rejoicing and dance, what better wine to get you in the mood and the rhythm in to your feet.  This wine will encourage even the shyest amongst us to get up and join in and dance at least one of the hakafot. Shiraz is bold but approachable, fruity and full of the warmth and joys of summer.

It remains for us wish all our friends in Israel and abroad a very happy health and peaceful New Year. We would also like to express our gratitude for your continued support throughout the year, we promise to continue to surprise and delight in the year to come, LeChaim – To Life!
