Shavuot is a festival that celebrates the giving of the Torah to the Jewish people and the bringing of the first fruit to the temple. The first fruit herald the oncoming of summer, which, for us in the winery means that summer, is on the way and our harvest is round the corner.

Sauvignon Blancs from Dalton

It is traditional to eat a dairy meal on the holiday and so here are our suggestions for accompaniments to the festive meal and even wines that you can enjoy throughout the summer.

This year we are suggesting our two Sauvignon Blanc wines.

Sauvignon Blanc Reserve , fermented in stainless steel tanks, yet allowed to mature on its lees for several months to develop extra length and mouth-feel, is a crisp refreshing wine with aromas of tropical fruit grapefruit and pineapples.

Fumé Blanc, was allowed to spontaneously ferment (wild yeast fermentation) in large 500 liter barrels and then allowed to mature in barrels for a further three months in barrels, the wine is full and round on the palate with aromas of citrus, guava and a subtle toasty character.

These wines will be great with the festive Shavuot meals and will even pair well with some hard cheeses, try it and see if you agree.
